This service provides family style accommodation to homeless young people and operates in 7 boroughs across Merseyside and North Wales. Young people are accommodated with registered ‘Householders’ in their homes, they will have their own room and share the kitchen and bathroom facilities. This is an alternative to living in a hostel. Each young person will receive support from their Householder and a support worker.
Practical & Emotional support provided includes:
- A furnished room within a household
- Help with accessing and engaging with education and employment
- Support to access benefits the young person is entitled to
- Support to develop independent living skills such as budgeting, cooking etc.
- Help with accessing specialist support
- Support to gain skills and confidence to sustain a tenancy via the Resettlement Passport program and access stable move-on accommodation
Who are the Supported Lodging Householders?
Householders are members of the community who have a spare room and want to support a young person. All Householders are assessed for suitability, undergo background and DBS checks and receive regular training and supervision & support from the staff in their area. Find out more.

Becoming a Householder
Our Supported Lodgings services rely on ‘Householders’ who are families, couples or individuals, who rent a bedroom within their home to a young homeless person, and provide both practical and emotional support. Read an interview with Shirley, one of our current Householders here.
Young people are ‘matched’ to Householders, taking into account factors including geographical location of the home, personality types, family composition, gender etc. We are always looking for new Householders across the Supported Lodgings Services.
Type of support Householders offer:
- Practical support to develop skills like budgeting, cooking, cleaning
- Emotional support and make efforts to help a young person to feel safe and secure
- Provision of a furnished room and 2 meals a day
- Regular communication and meetings with the young person’s keyworker
Householders receive regular support and training and a weekly payment towards to the costs of accommodating the young person.
The assessment process of becoming a Householder includes DBS checks, references and an assessment with one of the Supported Lodgings’ managers.

Our Nightstop services in North Wales and Knowsley Crash Bed service also rely on Householders to provide emergency accommodation to homeless young people. Householders in these areas will be able to discuss whether they are best suited to support this emergency provision, the longer-term placements or both.
