Sports Horizons, funded by Comic Relief, is one of our projects aiming to improve support to young people from difficult backgrounds. Working from our Young Person's Hub, the Sports Horizons team of multi-disciplinary workers have extensive experience supporting young people. Through sports inclusion and participation the team take a personalised holistic approach when working with young people. All of the support we offer is tailored to the individual and we maintain a flexible approach to underpin the changing needs of young people. We have extensive knowledge and experience working with our client group and the wider community.
We support young people aged 16-21 who are currently within insecure and unsettled accommodation.
What we offer
Through developing strong trusting relationships with
clients our mentors will help the young person develop key skills which can be transferred into all aspects of their life. Through participation in sporting activities our clients will
develop and strengthen new and existing skills.
Our clients are supported to do this with the goal of securing permanent employment or training opportunities alongside developing the skills necessary for independent living.
Sports inclusion
Participation in a range of waterports and land-based
activities, individual sports and a sporting residential. This will give young people the opportunity:
- For personal and social development
- To build their resilience, confidence and self-esteem
- To develop transferrable skills.
Mentoring
Each young person will have a designated mentor who will provide tailored support. Mentors will work with young
people to develop the life skills needed for successful
independent living.
Accommodation, independent living skills and life skills:
By completing the Resettlement Passport alongside their mentor, the young person will be supported to prepare for managing all aspects of a tenancy successfully.
Employment, education and training
Mentors will provide pre-employment training and help to
identify voluntary work placements, where young people can gain new skills and experiences in preparation for
working life. They will support young people to access
training and employment.
Young people will also have access to group workshops and specialist services for specific issues they may face.
