Local Solutions raises pay for care workers alongside commitment to Real Living Wage

Throughout the pandemic we have been so proud of our amazing carers at Local Solutions. When everyone else had been told to stay at home, they continued to go out every day to look after the elderly and most vulnerable in our communities. Although the level of funding of the care system is being debated at the moment, Local Solutions is responding to the results of staff consultation and the Board of Trustees has endorsed the Chief Executive’s proposal of increasing our care workers’ pay with immediate effect.

The Trustees wanted to go one step further. It is commensurate with our values that we want to pay a fair wage for the work our staff undertake: the Trustees have made a commitment to increase pay annually so that by 2023 it matches the wage set by the Living Wage Foundation.

Tom Harrison, Chief Executive of Local Solutions, said, “There is not enough funding in the care system, but we wanted to take immediate steps to ensure that our fantastic carers are not losing out. An immediate pay rise now and a commitment to becoming a Living Wage Employer demonstrates our values and priorities.”
