Accessing Support During Lockdown

Hi my name is Chrissie and I have been attending the carers centre since 2018. I was caring for my Mum who had dementia and bowel cancer and had pretty much hit rock bottom when I was referred to the Carers Centre. I am not exaggerating when I say it saved my sanity. Just being able to lose myself in craft or a Tai Chi session gave me a few hours a week where I was just me and my mind was totally absorbed in what I was doing. I have made friends with some lovely people who have all experienced the same problems. It is a safe place where no one will judge you if you have a bit of a rant or cry.

Of course Covid derailed us completely and everything changed. The Tai Chi sessions sadly stopped altogether but we have continued with weekly craft sessions on Zoom. For me and I think everyone else this has provided a focal point for the week and something to look forward to. It has been lovely to still be able to see friends and again it has been a safe place to talk about any issues we have especially with how Covid has affected our lives. I have definitely found it to be a much needed connection with friends as I was shielding for a long time plus we have made some really nice things.

Thankfully lockdown is easing now and sessions are slowly starting up again at the Centre, something we are all really happy about. I have attended one craft session and it felt amazing to be back in the building and seeing friends face to face. All in all the Carers Centre wether in person or online provides a much needed lifeline for carers in Liverpool and I hope it will be with us for many years to come.
