The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdowns it has brought have been testing for everyone, but for Unpaid Carers it has presented even greater challenges. An unpaid carer is someone who looks after family members or loved ones who otherwise wouldn’t be able to cope on their own. Many of the people who require that support are more vulnerable to develop a more serious illness if they are exposed to Covid-19. It is this concern that has made Carers roles much more difficult recently.
Some carers don’t live with the person they care for and some who are trying to balance going to work and providing safe care, amplifying the risk of passing on the virus. One of the most effective tools to reduce this risk and keep their loved ones safe is effective use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
For this reason, Local Solutions Carers’ Centre in partnership with Liverpool City Council have been providing PPE for Unpaid Carers. Our team has helped in identifying who requires this vital equipment through our existing support services or other professionals working with carers and also ensuring access to a regular supply.
This vital initiative is providing much needed reassurance and at this difficult time.
