Local Solutions’ Annual Awards Event

The Local Solutions Annual Award event took place on Friday 21st December, bringing together staff and volunteers from across the company to celebrate the last year. The event included speeches from Steve Hawkins, Local Solutions’ Chief Executive and Nigel Lanceley, Local Solutions’ Chair; an opportunity to review the year in photos and the first showing of a video featuring three people telling their stories of how they have been impacted by Local Solutions’ work this year.

Following nominations from staff, volunteers and our clients, the Annual Awards were announced:

The David Shone Award: Alex Winchester, Liverpool Watersports Centre
The David Shone award was presented to Alex Winchester from Liverpool Watersports Centre. The David Shone Award is named after Local Solution’s founder, who was passionate about supporting young people.  Alex first worked at the centre on a work placement from Wirral Met College, he then became a volunteer and has worked as a casual member of the staff nearly full time during this year’s season. He was nominated for his hard working attitude and never letting the team down. With a couple of key staff having to take time off over the summer, the team said they would have stuck without him. The team have seen him grow in confidence from being shy and reserved into being a chatty, confident young man, who is always helpful to the customers.

Unsung Hero Award: Ian Hall, Internal Auditor
The Unsung Hero Award was presented to Ian Hall, Local Solutions’ internal auditor. Colleagues described how his role was far wider than audit, offering vast levels of support to other teams within the organisation, calmly mediating between departments and providing a great source of support to the Finance and IT project teams.

Volunteer of the Year Award: Nick McAllister, Shopmobility
The Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Nick McAllister, a longstanding volunteer at Liverpool Shopmobility. Nick now trains other volunteers and has a good relationship with customers. Colleagues commented that he has a fantastic sense of humour and that ‘if Shopmobility's ethos could be embodied, Nick is most probably it!”

Team of the year award: HR Recruitment Team for Homecare
The HR Recruitment team for Homecare were awarded ‘Team of the Year’ for their tireless work recruiting care support workers for Homecare. Up against multiple other care companies all trying to recruit from the same pool of potential carers, the team have tried lots of different approaches to recruit carers. With the new Sefton and Knowsley contracts, the team have had extra challenges and pressures but have remained committed, resilient and positive.

Runners up in this category were:  Carers Centre Team and Homecare Referral Team.

Employee of the Year Award: Angela Harrison, Plas Bellin
Angela Harrison, manager at Plas Bellin Hall, was awarded ‘Employee of the Year.’ Angela manages a team of support workers who work day and night to support families at Plas Bellin and also supports the team at Sunraye hostel. The colleague who put Angela’s name for a nomination said that she always so impressed by how Angela really cares about the families at Plas Bellin and how well she manages the teams at both sites. The team at Plas Bellin have had excellent outcomes for the families that they support and this is tribute to Angela’s leadership. Angela always goes out of her way to assist with any support required across the organisation and continually connects the project with the rest of the company through regular updates.

Runners up in this category were: Rob Light from Mytime and Sandra Lister from Conwy Supported Lodgings.

Congratulations to all of our winners and runners up!
