With the cold weather starting to set in, most of us are still reminiscing about the glorious sunshine we saw over the summer. However, some families are worrying about how they are going to afford to keep warm this winter and many will need to turn to foodbanks.
In a multi-agency effort, organisations from across Liverpool came together at Local Solutions' Kensington Office to pack survival kits for those in need. In a combined effort, volunteers from across the city produced an impressive 1200 bags that are packed full of essentials to help people get through the cold weather.
The event was opened by Mayoral Lead for Older People, Councillor Gerard Woodhouse, and Actor & Comedian Ricky Tomlinson who both joined the volunteers in festively dressing up. Although they wouldn't have beaten some of the volunteers had there been a costume competition, some of whom looked as if they were sent by Santa himself.
The Bags will now be distributed across the city to vulnerable people. Within Local Solutions, the bags will be distributed to the Liverpool Carers Centre, Shopmobility, and our Homecare service. Local Solutions participated last year and we received some excellent feedback about how well received the packs were:
“People were delighted to receive the packs and find the tea, coffee, gloves and other items, it’s all the little things that make a difference to people. It’s nice to put a smile on people’s faces.”
