Local kids sell cakes to raise money for Homeground Hostel

The event was instigated by the children involved, who posted leaflets in the homes of local residents, made cakes and sold them under a gazebo outside their homes.  Although the weather was windy, cold and wet, the local residents of Southport and Birkdale turned up and supported the event by purchasing freshly made cakes and enjoying hot drinks.

Homeground Hostel, on Scotland Rd in Liverpool, provides accommodation and support to homeless young people between the ages of 16-21.  Young people become homeless for a variety ofreasons, including family breakdown, mental health issues and issues with drugs, alcohol and offending.  Each young person at the hostel is supported to gain the skills they need to access stable accommodation and to get into education and employment.

Andy Hastie, manager at Homeground Hostel said, “That’s fantastic news and restores my faith in the world.  Part of the money will be spent on a bake-off competition for our residents."
