Local Solutions’ interim Chief Executive, Tom Harrison welcomes the appointment of Hazel Snell as the organisation’s new Chair. Hazel joined the Board of Trustees in 2017.
As Senior Programme Manager at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), Hazel works in international public health research programmes in Africa. She has worked with LSTM for 10 years and her portfolio includes managing global, multi-million pound programmes, designing and implementing robust governance, financial and management systems, managing national and international multi-disciplinary teams and establishing overseas offices.
Previous to her role with LSTM, Hazel has worked in a range of public, private and voluntary sector roles and is keen to use her experience to help support the sustainable growth of Local Solutions. As Chair, she is supported by a very active, multi-disciplinary group of Trustees, working closely with Tom and the Executive Team.
Hazel succeeds Nigel Lanceley, who has been involved with the organisation since 2010, when he joined as a Trustee, becoming Chair in 2014. Nigel, who is also Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside, has recently been appointed as High Sheriff of Merseyside. He will remain very close to Local Solutions’ work through a role as Vice President.
Tom commented: “On behalf of our Trustees, staff and volunteers, I am delighted to welcome Hazel as Chair – she undoubtedly brings with her a wealth of experience that will strengthen the organisation going forward”.
Hazel said: “It is a privilege for me to be asked to Chair a pioneering organisation like Local Solutions and I look forward to continuing the excellent work of my predecessors. Nigel has been a terrific Chair and we would like to thank him for his ongoing commitment to Local Solutions over the past 11 years. We wish him the very best of luck in his new and important role as High Sheriff of Merseyside and as Vice-President of Local Solutions”.
