Tell us about yourself?
I have lived in Liverpool my whole life and I am currently a chaplain with MitE Chaplaincy, an organisation which specialises in providing workplace chaplains and promoting wellbeing resources. Previously, I worked for the Liverpool City Council in children services for around 20 years, so I know the city, and its people well.
I currently attend All Saint’s Parish Church on Wavertree Road, a church of around 40 people. This church does a lot of work in the local community with adults, children, asylum seekers, and runs regular English language classes for those who need it.
What does the role of being a chaplain involve?
The chaplain role is primarily a “listening role”. I will be somebody you can come and have a private chat with, over a cup of tea, about anything you like, whether it be work related or not. I understand that sometimes it’s nice to have somebody from outside the organisation to talk to and get things off your chest – to make yourself feel more comfortable and relaxed in your work environment.
How will this work practically?
I will be in the Mount Vernon Green building every Thursday around lunchtime, from 11am to 1pm. I will also be walking around the building, to see if anybody wants a chat – I am a very approachable person, so don’t be afraid to come and have a conversation!
How did you hear about becoming a chaplain and why did you decide to do it?
I received an email from my vicar saying that Chaplaincy were looking for more chaplains, and after hearing more information about the role I thought it would be ideal for me. Having a chaplain to talk to was always the kind of thing I wanted when I was working, so it seemed perfect for me.
How can people contact you?
What are you most looking forward to?
I am really amazed by the work people do at Local Solutions, and the enthusiasm and dedication that it is done with. All the different departments throughout the company are extremely interesting and do fantastic work for the community. I am so happy to join in and help the staff in any way that I can, and hopefully I can get to know everybody!
