Local Solutions deliver three specialist services to support victims of domestic abuse and their families.  Our services provide a co-ordinated approach to meet the needs of victims across Merseyside through various mechanisms, utilising direct and indirect approaches.

Domestic violence/abuse is widespread and can affect anyone. It applies to women and men of any age, race and social class.  People affected by domestic violence are often unaware of the resources available. A summary of Local Solutions' services is available by clicking on the links below:

 

 

Statistics

  • On average 2 women a week are killed by a male partner or former partner: this constitutes around one-third of all female homicide victims. (Povey,(ed.), 2004, 2005; Home Office, 1999; Department of Health, 2005.)

  • One incident is reported to the police every minute. (Stanko, 2000)

  • 29 children in 13 families were killed between1994 and 2004 as a result of contact arrangements in England and Wales, 10 of them since 2002. In five of these families contact was ordered by the court. (Saunders, 2004)

  • The overall costs of domestic violence are estimated to be £278million p.a. in greater London alone. In 2001 in England and Wales, domestic violence was estimated to cost a total of £23 billion. (Walby, 2004; Stanko, 1998, 2000)
