Supporting homeless young people in Merseyside
What is Supported Lodgings (SL)?
Local Solutions Supported Lodgings was formerly known as Merseyside Accommodation Project (MAP) and was established in 1986 to provide ‘family style’ accommodation and support for young homeless people aged between 16 and 25 (Aged 16-21, for our supported Lodgings services in Wales). Young people are referred to the project through various agencies including, training schemes, social services, schools, colleges etc.
Supported Lodgings develops positive relationships and effective support mechanisms for both the young people and the Householders who accommodate them. From the outset, the key to its success has been the Householders, who have opened their doors to offer accommodation and support to young people at a difficult time in their lives

Local Solutions currently operate seven Supported Lodgings services on Merseyside and North Wales which are funded through a combination of Supporting People money and Housing Benefit. The young person has their own room and shares the kitchen and bathroom facilities with the Householder and their family.
Funding is also sought from charitable trusts and benefactors in order to support additional activities - i.e. holidays, adventure breaks and to provide emergency payments to our young people in need through the Hardship Fund.
