Process of Assessment
Screening
Initial introduction and information at induction with an interview
slot assigned.
Screening process: There is a lengthy interview with screening
based questions and tests. This is to assess the student’s
history, problems and their particular strengths. The student can
then sit the computer based screening tool and if indicators of
dyslexia are identified, more detailed screening is offered in
order to ascertain the exact nature of the problem. If the student
shows potential indicators for dyslexia, then a full assessment
with a psychologist will be offered.
Students can take advantage of a learning styles inventory in order
to assess their preferred learning style.
Educational Psychologist
A full cognitive assessment will be offered and a statement
produced detailing the results of all tests.
The psychologist will make recommendations for relevant support
required by clients found to show traits of dyslexia.
Support
Those clients who are found to be dyslexic will be offered 1 to 1
tutorial support. This tuition is based on multi-sensory teaching
and learning techniques and centres on individual learning needs
and strengths.
Students can take advantage of resources available such as
voice-activated software, mind-mapping packages and predictive
software.
All screening, assessment and support is carried out in strict
confidence.
