Ability First 

What is Ability First?

The programme offers group based programmes and courses for clients including confidence building, CV preparation, job applications and interview techniques.

How it can help you

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Identify your personal skills, strengths and abilities.
  • Put your disability into perspective taking a more focused approach to your job vacancy search
  • Discuss specific and realistic employment goals.
  • Build and develop a confident approach within a group situation.
  • Discover a range of options that are open to you:  e.g. Access to Work, voluntary work, training.
  • Meet other people who face barriers to work because of a disability.

 Course details

The key features to an Ability First Programme are:

  • Pre-start introduction session to clarify aims of the programme.
  • Three-week part-time programme (4 hours a day, Monday - Friday)
  • Flexible agenda based on individual needs.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV), interview  techniques, practical help and advice with job applications.
  • A variety of guest speakers.
  • In addition to group work, individual one-to-one support.
  • Agreed end of programme report.
