Supporting Carers of People with a Physical or Learning Disability

Local Solutions’ Carers Project is providing a whole range of support to carers who are looking after a friend, relative or child who has a physical or learning disability.  A dedicated worker is employed within the project to offer help, guidance and support on a whole range of issues to assist them in their caring role.

Carers can receive an assessment of their needs and obtain information on the following:

·         Accessing a social worker
·         Person Centred Planning
·         Transition
·         Direct payments
·         The Learning Disabilities Partnership board
·         Short Breaks
·         Independent Living Fund

The worker will also signpost carers to other helpful agencies that can assist them with their needs including:

·         Training to support them in their caring role
·         Accessibility issues
·         How to access a disabled parking permit (blue badge)

Carers will receive access to our:

·         Carers Newsletter
·         Carers Emergency Card Service
·         Welfare Rights Service to help you obtain your full benefit entitlements

Referrals can be made via – social work teams, day centre staff, community support staff or by contacting the Carers Development worker, Francis Coles, directly on: 0151-705 2423. Once the referral has been made the worker will make contact with the carer via telephone or letter. Home visits, office based appointments or simply a chat over the phone can be accommodated to suit the individual.
