Mental Health Carers Development Workers (Liverpool)

There are two workers dedicated to supporting individuals who look after or provide unpaid care for someone with a mental health problem – this could be a relative, partner or friend.

Their role is to support carers in a way that suits them including:

  • A signposting service - helping people to find the most suitable service to meet their needs.
  • A listening service - enabling carers to have the opportunity to talk about what has happened.
  • An information service - to supply specific information about services for the person they care for.

The workers operate on a referral basis – carers are always welcome to refer themselves and this can be done by simply picking up the phone and calling one of the workers. Referrals can also be accepted from other health and social professionals who feel that they have identified a carer who would benefit from the service.

Once the referral has been made the workers will make contact with the carer via telephone or letter. The workers can accommodate home visits, office based appointments or simply a chat over the phone – whatever suits the individual.
