Supporting Carers of People with Mental Health Problems

Local Solutions is dedicated to supporting individuals who look after or provide unpaid care for someone with a mental health problem. This could be a relative, partner or friend.

The worker's role is to support carers in a way that suits the individual including:

- One to one support through home visits, if desired.
- Access to our Carers Newsletter and Carers Emergency Card Service
- A signposting service - helping people to find the most suitable service to meet their -  needs.
- A listening service - enabling carers to have the opportunity to talk about what has    happened.
- An information service - to supply specific information about services for the person they care for.
Access to Welfare Rights Service

The worker operates on a referral basis – carers are always welcome to refer themselves and this can be done by simply picking up the phone and calling one of the workers. Referrals can also be accepted from other health and social professionals who feel that they have identified a carer who would benefit from the service.

Once the referral has been made the worker will make contact with the carer via telephone or letter. Home visits, office based appointments or simply a chat over the phone can be accommodated to suit the individual.
