What Are MAP Householders?
The Role of the MAP Householder
The householders are the key to the MAP operation, providing the
direct day-to-day contact with the young people. Some
individual cases can be demanding but can also bring enjoyment and
a real sense of value. Many of the young people referred to
MAP have been obliged to take full control of their lives at an
earlier stage than many of their contemporaries.
The householder’s relationship with the young person should
be as adult to adult not as a replacement parent. It is
important to allow sufficient space in which the individual can
mature and develop independently. MAP assists the householder
both with logistical matters such as organising housing benefit and
by on going support, such as the availability of appointed
fieldworkers to discuss concerns regarding any placements.
Becoming a MAP householder
MAP recognises that it is the commitment and dedication of our
registered householders, which ensures the continuing development
of our work. The project is actively recruiting potential
householders who can contribute to its service.
Householders receive generous payment , which is paid fortnightly,
with an added small contribution by the young person to cover fuel,
breakfast and evening meal.
It is normal practice for MAP to arrange for the housing benefit to
be paid directly into the householders’ bank account.
The young person pays their proportion weekly from their own
monies. It is important that young person retains the
independence of managing his or her own budgets.
