The Merseyside Accommodation Project (MAP)

Supporting homeless teenagers in Merseyside

What is MAP?

The Merseyside Accommodation Project (MAP) was established by Local Solutions in 1986 as a supported lodgings scheme to provide ‘family style’ accommodation and support for young homeless people aged 16 - 18.  Young people are referred to the project through social services and other youth support agencies.

MAP is an effective solution to a complex problem.  Its pioneering work looked at youth homelessness from a whole new angle that has been recognised nationally for its innovation and approach.

MAP has entered into a contract with Denbighshire County Council to set up a pilot of the service in Denbigh, North Wales.  The initiative will meet the current gap in provision for young homeless people aged 16 – 18.  This partnership will support many young people and families in the vicinity”.

Funding

MAP is funded through Supporting People and supplemented by Housing Benefit.

Funding is also sought from charitable trusts and benefactors in order to support additional activities - i.e. holidays, adventure breaks and to provide emergency payments to our young people in need through the Hardship Fund.
