Entry Level to Horticulture 

Course Content:

This is an entry level course aimed at developing basic skills in horticulture.  The following skills are covered.

·          Recognition and naming of plants

·          Recognition of tools and their correct use and care

·          Planting  and weeding up an area, harvesting a crop

·          Recognise warning signs and symbols and respond to a fire alarm

·          Behave in a safe and correct way in the workplace

·          Lift, handle and move objects (e.g. wheelbarrow) correctly and safely

·          Recognise parts of a plant

·          Fill up a plant container and insert plant materials 
           (seeds, cuttings or  plants)

·          Edge up a lawn or flowerbed

·          Construction

What The Course Leads To:

If you successfully complete this course you may be able to progress to NVQ1 in Horticulture.

Qualifications:

NPTC Certificate in Skills for Working Life Horticulture Entry Level 2 and 3.

Entry Requirements:

 You will not need to have formal qualifications but you will have to have an interest and willingness to work with plants in different situations and weather conditions.

When The Course Runs:

The course is available for 5 hours per week, 36 weeks per year over one year.

Course Fees:

Learners may qualify for a fee reduction if receipt of means tested benefits.
