The watersports centre on Queens Dock Merseysport, run by the Merseyside based charity Local Solutions, is getting ready for a full summer of fun.
Merseysport is operated from a purpose built complex on the waterfront, and offers a wide range of water-based activities including hourly tuition and 1 or 2 day courses in sailing, windsurfing and canoeing activities along with powerboat handling.
Its aim is to open up watersports to the whole community, and great emphasis is placed on encouraging young people from the inner city areas, schools and youth clubs to participate. Regular users include school groups, individuals (young and old) and families.
Merseysport works closely with people who have had little opportunity to take part in watersports. Our members include: groups for children suffering abuse in the family, youngsters from Pupil Referral Units (PRU), at risk youngsters from minority ethnic communities, detached youth projects, police/probation schemes and young homeless people. The facility is also fully accessible to disabled people - there are a number of special schools and individuals with dual disabilities in membership of the Centre.
So, if you want to try a new sport, get wet this summer or simply have fun - try Merseysport.
