On the 8th October 'The Patients’ Council' will be celebrating their 10th anniversary with afternoon tea in the patient’s cafe at the Broadoak Unit in Broadgreen Hospital. The event coinciding with World Mental Health Day will run from 1.00pm – 3.30pm.
The Patients’ Council, an independent organisation supported by Local Solutions, set up by and for mental health service users, works with mental health service users at the Broadoak Unit, at Broadgreen Hospital and Windsor House. Service Users are offered a listening service, along with support and advice and can openly talk to staff and volunteers and discuss any problems they may be encountering during their stay.
Last year alone the ‘Council’ ran 130 ward sessions working with almost 1,000 patients. As a result of the project, there is more interaction between hospital staff and patients, with many services being improved and developed.
