Help needed for our new Oakmere Gardening Project

New Oakmere Gardening Project Appeal

We are currently in the process of transforming some land within our Oakmere College site in Walton, Liverpool into a vegetable patch and allotment area to allow our students to grow their own produce that they can use to prepare food, sell as part of enterprise projects or take home to their families.

Not only will it give our students the chance to learn more about the supply chain and where produce comes from but it will also give them a place where they can retreat to when dealing with personal issues.

The project will also promote healthy eating throughout the college – which fits in with Local Solutions’ healthy eating policies - as students will learn more about the benefits of freshly grown produce and it will also be used to prepare meals which are then served in the canteen to both Oakmere students and staff.

We applied for a grant from Cash for Kids at Radio City and were awarded £2,300 which is a massive help and in addition we’ve managed to get essential materials valuing approximately £2,000 donated to us.

However, we still need as much help as we can get.  We are appealing to anyone who knows any local businesses or individuals who can donate building materials, tools or gardening equipment.

We’d like everyone to spread the word and have a think if there’s anyone they know who could help out going forward.
