Oakmere Community Open Day


A Community Open Day was held at our Oakmere Community College project on

Wednesday 25th November 2015 12.30p.m – 4.30p.m.

There were stalls providing information about the courses on offer at Oakmere including, Plumbing, Motor Vehicle Repair, Dance, Sport and Leisure, Pre-Uniformed Services, with help from the 156 Regiment,  Hair and Beauty, Health and Social Care, Horticulture and Construction Skills.  Attendees were treated to free hair and beauty treatments and they welcomed the opportunity to unwind, have their hair and nails done followed by a relaxing massage.

Other Local Solutions services provided support and information they included, Liverpool Watersports Centre, Carers Centre, Careers Advice, Volunteering, Fuel/Water Debt Advice and Acorns Nursery who were offering free child care places.  Liverpool Football Club Foundation KICKS coaches came along and provided visitors with football coaching sessions.

Creative workshops were delivered by Hours of Fun on making up hanging baskets, various arts and crafts, cake decorating and stalls were people could sample different honey’s with Urban Beekeeper Andy Hubbard and they could also sample different jam tasting and massages from Jackie Cain and we welcomed Lorraine and the team from ASDA Walton, Community Life.

Sizzling hot dogs and tasty burgers were served from our barbeque with a difference as it was in the form of the front end of a car. Lots of great food, cakes and hot drinks were freely available throughout the day from our brilliant Catering Dept. students.

During the event youngsters visited Santa’s grotto to make their Christmas wishes and were given a special gift from Santa himself.
