Councillor Malcolm Kennedy visits Local Solutions

Councillor Malcolm Kennedy - Cabinet member for Regeneration, Transport and Climate Change - visited Local Solutions today, to find out more about the services we offer.

During the visit, he met Damien who is supported by our AIMS project.  Damien, 26 admits he has had an unsettled life growing up, in terms of where he has lived and never really settling in any school.  He is now receiving support from the AIMS team with accommodation and is working towards a Level 1 Employability Skills qualification.

The AIMS (Accommodation, Intense Mentoring and Skills) service provides support to young people with complex needs to enable them to sustain stable accommodation and access employment and training.  To date, out of an initial cohort of 139 young people, AIMS have  supported:

• 110 young people to sustain tenancies for 6 months and longer

• 81 to complete accredited qualifications

• 37 into employment

The programme is funded by the Fair Chance Fund which is a joint initiative of the Department for Communities and Local Government and the Cabinet Office.
