Launch of 2013 Year of Dementia Awareness

2013 is Year of Dementia Awareness and Local Solutions were pleased to attend a launch event at the Florence Institute on 21stJanuary.

The event was organised by the Community Health Ambassador Team(CHAT), who are managed by Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton and funded through Liverpool Primary Care Trust. The aim of the event was to highlight dementia and to help make Liverpool a dementia friendly city, where dementia is everybody’s business.

Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Sharon Sullivan launched the campaign.  Those present on the day viewed an interactive dementia awareness film as ell as listen to a personal testimony from an individual living with dementia.    There were also addresses from representatives from Liverpool PCT along with other main attractions to demonstrate how we can all be dementia aware, dementia friendly and memory aware.  Chris Price, Liverpool PCT commented, “The year is a partnership campaign and we are pleased to report that to date, over 15 different organisations have already signed up support the year.

Those present received a surprise and welcome visit from HRH The Prince of Wales, who was at the Florence Institute to officially open their centre.

CHAT hosted a number of very successful similar events throughout the week to highlight 2013 Year of Dementia Awareness.
