Liverpool’s Lord Mayor marks gift to the City
On Thursday, 15th May, Local Solutions welcomed The Rt. Worshipful, The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Gary Millar, at an event at Liverpool Watersports Centre in Queens’s Dock.
The event was held to mark our gift to the city – free watersports sessions for young homeless people - in response to the Freedom of the City Award this year.
Over 40 people attended the event, including our President, the Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dame Lorna Muirhead, who was accompanied by her husband Ronald. We also welcomed the Chief Constable of Merseyside, Mr. Jon Murphy QPM, who is also a member of our Board of Trustees.
The watersports sessions were held over two days – 14th and 15th May and the young people who took part enjoyed a range of activities, including canoeing and kayaking, which led to them completing their British Canoe Union One Star Award.
Before presenting the young people with their certificates, The Lord Mayor congratulated them on achieving their award; he then thanked Local Solutions for their gift and unveiled a plaque which will be situated at Liverpool Watersports Centre to commemorate the occasion.
Finally, to round off this memorable occasion, the Lord Mayor, joined by the Chief Constable, along with Ronald Muirhead and Paula Bell, Director, Operations, Social Care and Inclusion, were taken on a tour around Queen’s Dock in a speedboat by LWC Instructor, Charles Hassett.
Congratulations to all the young people who achieved
