Local Solutions was delighted to welcome the leader of Liverpool City Council, Cllr. Joe Anderson for a tour of the organisation’s sites and services today.

Chief Executive, Steve Hawkins, was accompanied by Senior Managers, Debbie Cooke and David Ellis in guiding the Labour Cllr. around various facilities and enlightening him on the aims and ethos of the leading social enterprise.

The tour began at Scotland Road where the building houses a number of services that support vulnerable people in the community including support for homeless teenagers and a 29 bed hostel. Support for people affected by domestic violence is also provided at the site, as well as an anti bullying service assisting children and families affected by bullying.

Next stop was Shopmobility. The service has been in operation for over fifteen years to support people with mobility restrictions. It offers wheelchairs and powered scooters for hire to enable people with disabilities to take advantage of the city centre facilities. In May 2008 Shopmobility moved into new premises within the Liverpool ONE development courtesy of Grosvenor, to ensure that the new leisure and shopping area is fully accessible to all.

The visit ended at the Liverpool Watersports Centre based at Queen’s Dock where training in watersports activities are delivered including kayaking, canoeing, sailing and Powerboat courses. Individuals can gain accredited qualifications and the project can deliver customised training programmes to match the needs of groups. Activities are open to the whole community, however, we have a special focus on excluded groups including offenders or those at risk of offending.
