Chief Executive Welcomes Councillor

Cllr. Simon with John Hannaway of Liverpool Watersports Centre.

Labour Cllr. Wendy Simon was welcomed to Local Solutions today to learn more of its services and projects.

Cllr. Simon has specific political responsibility for culture, tourism, the Library service, sports and leisure and exploiting the City’s cultural assets such as the Town Hall and St. George’s Hall to attract investment and visitors.

Chief Executive, Steve Hawkins, welcomed the councillor at headquarters where he began the tour at Liverpool Carers Centre which offers home visits to unpaid carers, providing support and advice. The project also delivers a range of services including a Carers Emergency Card scheme, welfare rights advice and a free quarterly newsletter. The Centre also provides a range of activities for carers such as Tai Chi and complementary therapies to enhance general health and well being.

A tour of Shopmobility was next at Liverpool ONE, which supports people with mobility restrictions by providing wheelchairs and powered scooters to enable easier access to the city centre. This was followed by a visit to the Liverpool Watersports Centre at Queens Dock which offers training in canoeing, windsurfing, powerboat handling and sailing to the whole community, with specific targeting of excluded groups including offenders or those at risk of offending.
