Homecare service distribute winter survival packs
Local Solutions’ Chief Executive, Stephen Hawkins presented a winter survival pack to 99 year-old Miss Kitty Carver on Monday 10th December as part of the organisation’s 2007 winter survival campaign.
Miss Carver, of Southern Road, Speke is one of 1500 service users across Merseyside who currently receive domiciliary care from the Local Solutions Homecare service. A team of Care workers provide practical support to Miss Carver four times a day which enables her to live in her own home.
This is the third consecutive year that Local Solutions has run the winter survival initiative which has proved extremely successful. The packs, which have been made possible thanks to generous donations, consist of essential winter items including: thermals, bed socks, blankets, hot chocolate and mince pies.
Mr Hawkins asked what her secret to old age was and Miss Carver explained: “I have a good appetite and I don’t drink or smoke. “ Looking ahead to 2008 when Miss Carver will celebrate 100 years of age, she explained that rather than receive a letter from the Queen, she would prefer to have a cheque and then she could give the money away to other people.
On receiving the pack, Miss Carver said: “It’s lovely, I’m so honoured, I can’t wait to have a closer look at all of the nice things. Thank you for all of your kindness and I wish you all a merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”
