Jobs joy for young unemployed

Over the past two months, Local Solutions’ Future Jobs Fund (FJF) has successfully placed over 100 young unemployed people from Merseyside into paid work.

Roles filled in Local Solutions include Shopmobility Assistant based at Liverpool One, Environmental Ranger, and Electronic Monitoring Officer. Even a Kayak Instructor at the organisation’s watersports centre, Merseysport, is currently on offer!

Whilst jobs secured with Work Placement Hosts include CAB Advice Worker, Media Project Officer, Football Coach, Nursery Assistant, Care Support Worker, Screen Print & Clothing Designer, Graphic Designer, Marketing & PR Assistant, and Fire Alarm Engineer.

As a result of the official FJF launch at the Liverpool Echo Arena on March 10th , 2010 and an ongoing recruitment drive, Local Solutions’ FJF is hoping to achieve its target of getting a further 300 people into work by the end of this month.

Stephen Leftley, Marketing Co-ordinator of Local Solutions’ FJF, commented, “The launch event was an enormous success in that we matched 152 clients to a variety of job vacancies. We also created more jobs on the day in conjunction with our Work Placement Hosts due to the high calibre of candidates. The huge turnout proves that young people of Merseyside who are out of work are determined to secure themselves paid work.”

Approximately 900 people turned up at the event which was officially opened by Wallasey MP Angela Eagle. First through the door was 24 year old Alexandra Stutely who had expressed an interest in administration work. She was introduced to Christine Chellew, Events Manager of the Rhys Jones Memorial Fund, which is one of Local Solutions’ Work Placement Hosts. Having completed an application form, Alexandra was given an impromptu interview by Christine and subsequently offered the job on the spot.
