Homecare staff defeat the cold weather

Despite the heavy snow and freezing temperatures, Local Solutions' Homecare department has pulled together to ensure that critical care is provided to their vulnerable service users.

Staff from Homecare's six areas of Liverpool, Knowsley, Wirral, Sefton, Manchester and Halton went above and beyond the call of duty, with many walking for hours through the snow to provide care to those housebound residents who do not have the ‘back up’ of family and whose health would have suffered without the crucial care and support.

Also, many Homecare staff were kindly provided with lifts from their own family members to ensure that they didn’t miss any of their essential appointments.

Vicky Dunbavin, Operational Manager could not praise the staff highly enough for their dedication and commitment to service users.  She commented “All of our Homecare staff have been an inspiration in ensuring that there is no disruption to this vital service during these adverse weather conditions”.

Meanwhile an 82 year old service user of Homecare has been praising staff who managed to keep to her scheduled visits during the heavy snow despite one carer having to walk for over an hour on two consecutive days due to disrupted public transport.

Maud receives two daily visits from carers to help with tasks such as preparing meals, bathing and taking medication. She has many health problems including diabetes, osteoporosis and a frozen shoulder.

She commented: "My carer Debbie is exceptional. She does anything I ask of her - she is simply marvellous. Another carer has been in to help me too even though she herself has a broken arm. They are dedicated people and I am so grateful to them."
