Local Solutions welcomed His Grace, Archbishop Patrick Kelly, as he toured its several services aimed at helping society’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged people. The Archbishop with unpaid carers at the Liverpool Carers Centre.

The tour began at the social enterprise’s headquarters in Liverpool 7 where His Grace met with staff and service users of the Liverpool Carers Centre which provides a range of support, information and advice for unpaid carers who look after a friend or relative with a long-term illness or disability.

There was then an opportunity to meet with managers and staff to learn more about the various work areas of Local Solutions, which include support to young homeless people, ex offenders, young people on drug rehabilitation programmes and people affected by bullying and domestic violence.  His Grace was also interested to hear about the Intensive Support Mentoring (ISM) programme aimed at supporting individuals who are hardest to engage, in particular those who have a history of cyclical stays within hostels or short term accommodation.

The tour concluded with a visit to the new Shopmobility premises in Liverpool ONE which hires out scooters and wheelchairs to disabled people to enable them to have access to the facilities within the city centre.

Steve Hawkins, Chief Executive of Local Solutions commented, “It was a great honour to once again welcome the Archbishop of Liverpool to see at first hand the valuable work that is benefiting some of the most vulnerable members of our community.”
