Scotland Road Site Welcomes Shadow Home Secretary

Local Solutions was delighted to host a visit for Shadow Home Secretary andA resident of Homeground with Chris Grayling MP. Shadow Minister for Merseyside, Chris Grayling MP today. The Minister toured the organisation’s Scotland Road site which houses numerous services aimed at helping vulnerable people and young people on the fringes of the criminal justice system.

The Minister was welcomed by organisation Chief Executive, Steve Hawkins, who emphasised the valuable role that voluntary organisations can play in delivering services to extremely vulnerable people. He then had the opportunity to meet staff from a range of services that are supporting socially isolated people such as families fleeing domestic violence, those affected by bullying and young homeless people.

The visit concluded with a tour of Homeground which is a 29-bed hostel for young homeless people. Here the Minister met with five residents who talked about the support they are receiving which is helping them turn their lives around towards a positive future.

The Minister paid tribute to the pioneering work being undertaken within the organisation and commented: “I think it is really important that such services are available for people who have fallen on hard times.” He then wished the residents the best of luck in forging a better future for themselves.
