WEAAD is supported by the United Nations and the World Health Organisation and was started four years ago with the objective of helping people to understand what elder abuse is and how it can be prevented.

Local Solutions has distributed 1000 purple badges (which represent WEAAD) to domiciliary care providers and its staff throughout Liverpool to help raise the profile of the day. Alert cards, with contact details of who to get in touch with in the event of abuse, have also been distributed.

In Wirral, an event is being held today at the Leverhulme Hotel in Port Sunlight where 60 professionals (including staff from Local Solutions) will meet to discuss safeguarding issues and also sign a pledge to show their commitment to safeguarding. Local Solutions’ staff have also recently attended safeguarding committees in Manchester and Knowsley.

Local Solutions works in partnership with a range of multi-agencies and is a member of five Safeguarding Adults Boards: Knowsley Safeguarding Adults Quality Assurance Board, Liverpool Safeguarding Adults Board, Wirral Safeguarding Adults Board, Sefton Safeguarding Adults Board and Wirral Age Concern - PEACE (Preventing Elder Abuse & Changing Experiences) Project.

As part of the 2009 campaign, Karen Yeowart, Care Coordinator, for the Homecare Liverpool Service has designed a safeguarding poster (pictured above) that has been distributed to employees and service users.
