Carers event proves huge success

Over 500 carers from across the region gathered at St George’s HallThe Lord Mayor of Liverpool launching the event. yesterday to attend an event organised by Local Solutions and Liverpool City Council.

Officially launched by the Lord Mayor, The Carers Event in Liverpool is held during National Carers Week each year, and as usual it was a huge success - seeing the highest attendance in its history.

Local Solutions staff from its Liverpool Carers Centre, Carers Wellness Centre, Welfare Rights and Food Hygiene One of the demonstrations at the event.departments, were in attendance to offer information to carers. Amongst the several other exhibitors were Community Food Workers, Greenbank College, Alzheimer’s Society, Lifehouse, Age Concern, the NHS, Barnado’s, PSS, and Merseytravel plus many more.

Carers were given health checks, advice, demonstrations and more hands-on support in the form of Indian head massages, hand massages, manicures and Reiki – all free of charge.

The theme of this year’s National Carers Week is Carers…the UK’s secret service in reference to the hidden army of carers across the country. TheCarers are pampered during the event. aim of the week (8th to 14th June) is for carers to receive greater recognition for the incredible contribution they make to their families and communities. 

Kathy Newton of the Liverpool Carers Centre commented: “It was wonderful to see so many carers come together at the event and experience a little pampering whilst also learning of  support that is available to them. I would like to thank all the exhibitors and volunteers who took part as they always make the day memorable and special for carers who come along.”
