Carers event at St George\'s Hall
Carers event at St George's Hall
Carers in Liverpool are invited to attend an event at St George’s Hall on Tuesday 9th June, in celebration of National Carers Week 2009. The event is organised by Local Solutions in partnership with Liverpool City Council.
Each year, National Carers Week is given a theme with this year’s being Carers…the UK’s secret service in reference to the hidden army of carers across the country. The aim of the week (8th to 14th June) is for carers to receive greater recognition for the incredible contribution they make to their families and their communities.
The Carers Event starts at 10.30am running until 3.00pm with the official opening at 11am by the Lord Mayor and is aimed at highlighting issues that carers face when looking after a friend, relative or neighbour. These include financial commitments, job restrictions and personal relationships and this year there is a particular focus on health and wellbeing – an important aspect for carers in their demanding role.
The event is a great opportunity for carers and professionals from across the city to find out about the wide range of services and support available to them, as well as receive a health check and enjoy demonstrations, complementary therapies and beauty treatments in the wonderful surroundings of St George’s Hall.
The event will also highlight ‘Liverpool’s Year of the Environment’ with an ‘environment’ related quiz and prizes, information and advice about ‘environmental events’, energy efficiency and fuel poverty.
If you are a carer, then why not come along for a fun and informative day. For further information please contact Kathy Newton on 0151 705 2390 or email KNewton@localsolutions.org.uk. More details can also be found at www.carersweek.org.uk .
