Ability First Celebrates 10 Years of Success

The ‘Ability First’ team hosted an informal event today to commemorate 10 years of supporting people with disabilities back into the workplace.

The event was held at the head quarters of Local Solutions, which is the managing agent of the course.

Ability First is a three week motivational work preparation programme that is delivered throughout the North West (Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria). It is funded by the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) and customers are referred by Jobcentre Plus Disability Employment Advisors.

Partners and staff came together for the occasion and listened to speakers who had played an integral part in the success of the programme and concluded with a celebratory luncheon.

It is estimated that around 4000 people have been on the programme since it began over a decade ago with every single person who has attended saying they would recommend it to others. Throughout this time, approximately 55% of customers have subsequently gone on to employment, further education, training or voluntary work.
