Young homeless people in Liverpool
URGENTLY need your help
The Merseyside Accommodation Project (MAP) is urgently looking to recruit householders across Liverpool who can offer a spare room within their home to a young homeless person, in return for a weekly fee of £140 for board and lodgings. This fee may not affect means tested benefits.
MAP works specifically with young people aged 16/17, who have become homeless through no fault of their own. Often there has been a serious breakdown in the family, perhaps following a divorce, the death of a parent or even following neglect and abuse. The young people are then placed with one of the project’s registered householders who offer a spare room until such time as they are able to live independently.
Householders are the key to the operation, providing day to day contact with the young people. A team of qualified project workers will provide assistance to both the householder and young person. In addition, young people will be encouraged to take part in educational opportunities; they will also be offered a programme of support, including life skills, budgeting and healthy eating, to prepare them for eventual independent living aged 18.
