Literary Contest Benefits Local Solutions

Literary Contest Benefits Local Solutions

Local Solutions has benefited from the proceeds of an international short story competition held by law firm Mace & Jones.

With offices in Liverpool as well as Knutsford and Manchester, Mace & Jones decided to mark Liverpool’s year as Capital of Culture by launching a literary contest back in June 2008. The entry fee for the competition, which encouraged both published authors and beginners to participate, was £10 and Local Solutions was kindly chosen as the recipient of the proceeds.

At an awards ceremony held this week at St. George’s Hall the winner and runners-up of the competition were announced and presented with prizes. Meanwhile, Senior Manager of Corporate Services at Local Solutions, Heather Akehurst, was presented with a cheque for £1,000 by Capital of Culture Chief, Phil Redmond and Martin Edwards of Mace & Jones. She commented: “We are very grateful for this cheque, the money will be spent on providing wet weather clothing for the children who attend our nurseries.”

Entries for the competition were received from as far away as New Zealand and India, however it was a local woman, (who interestingly lives on a tug boat in the Albert Dock) Cathy Roberts, who was chosen as the winner for her story 'The Appointment'.
