Local Solutions has delivered a successful Winter Survival Campaign for the past 11 years and this years event which took place on Friday 20th November 2015 between 9a.m. – 1.30p.m. was no exception. Over 100 volunteers from a range of organisations across the city came together and completed the enormous task of bag packing.

This annual campaign aims to support elderly and vulnerable people to help them through those long cold winter months by providing them with a winter pack containing some basic amenities and resources. The packs included items such as blankets, thermos flasks, thermometers, socks, scarfs, hats, gloves, imperishable food items and support information about services and local resources that people may need as the colder weather approaches. The rhythm of packing was set to festive music provided by Gary Evans, a Local Solutions, Care Support Worker who volunteered to DJ at the event to set the pace.Gemma Hatchard (Riverside Resident) - First Reciepint of a Winter Assistance Park from Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Conception

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Tony Concepcion who attended the main event packed and presented the first winter pack to Gemma Hatchard.

This years event was developed through a much broader partnership of local organisations making it much bigger than previous years, as it reached out to 1,000 people. The Winter Assistance Partnership of organisations involved helped to increase the number of distribution outlets ensuring that the campaign reached out to those most in need, particularly those suffering from the current financial climate and experiencing hardship.

Local Solutions would like to thank all of the partner organisations for their donations, time, distribution, planning and support in making this years campaign a huge success.

The following 16 partner organisations contributed a total of£18,000 towards the campaign. They included Liverpool Community Health, Local Solutions, Liverpool Mutual Homes, Nugent Care, The Riverside Group, Liverpool Housing Trust, One Vision Housing, Regenda, Plus Dane, Your Housing Group, The Whitechapel Centre, Beacon Counselling Trust, Home Carers, Mersey Care Julie Anne, Liverpool City Council and U5.

In addition to the monetary contributions North, South and Central Food banks donated 1,000 boxes of cereal, tins of beans and pasta and  a variety of agencies provided items, information and helped to advertise the campaign, including; United Utilities, Scottish Power, Healthwatch Liverpool, Merseyside Police, Liverpool CVS, Social Enterprise Network, VIRIDIS Home Energy and CARA Recycling who volunteered to collect the cardboard.

A BIG thanks to all concerned as through working together

we achieved our goal in record breaking time.

Same time and same place next year.
