Shopmobility Moves to Liverpool One
On 29t h
May, Liverpool Shopmobility, managed by Local Solutions, moved to
new premises within the Liverpool One complex. Staff,
volunteers and service users joined in the celebrations of the
phase 1 opening, which attracted over 200,000 shoppers. The launch
of the 42 acre city centre development, coincides with
Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture.
Shopmobility supports people of all ages who have a mobility
restriction by providing them with the freedom and independence to
access amenities in Liverpool city centre through the hire of
mobility equipment. The service is available to everyone who
has a mobility restriction which can be due to age, disability or
injury. A range of modern and easy to use mobility
equipment is available for hire, including wheelchairs, power
chairs and power scooters. Staff are at hand to offer
information about local amenities, accessible shops, disability
issues and mobility equipment.
Local Solutions is proud that Shopmobility is at the heart of the
development, and has been working with the complex developers
Grosvenor, as well as stakeholders, including Liverpool City
Council and Merseytravel to ensure an enhanced Shopmobility
service.
Stephen Hawkins, the organisation’s Chief Executive said, “Liverpool One is the most exciting regeneration development
taking place in the country and we are proud to be part of
it. In twenty years time, 4 in 10 people will require some form of care
and it is vital that those people will not be excluded from this
wonderful opportunity. As an organisation of strong values, Local
Solutions made it clear early on that it was important that the
development wasn’t seen as ‘exclusive’.
Shopmobility will provide opportunities for all our people to
benefit from Liverpool One regardless of their
disabilities.
