Our chairman, Nigel Lanceley, introduced the celebration and then presented each of the volunteers with a certificate followed by a raffle. Volunteers carry out a variety of important roles and are a valuable asset to Local Solutions so this was an excellent opportunity to show our appreciation.
During the lunch, we asked volunteers what made them volunteer for Local Solutions and what they like best about their roles. Some of the replies included:
•"I volunteer because I wanted to help people when they needed it most"
•"It was a great opportunity to improve myself, learn and help others"
•"I volunteer to help make a difference to young people's lives"
•"I love volunteering as I enjoy talking to people and helping them"
•"I enjoy volunteering as I like meeting lots of different people"
We also asked what they would say to anyone who is considering volunteering:
•"You get more than you give"
•"Volunteering is highly rewarding and Local Solutions gives great support"
•"Being a volunteer is an excellent experience. You feel part of a big family while you learn"
•"Go out and enjoy what you do in life and pass this on to others"
The event comes just a few days before Volunteers Week which is a national campaign taking place 1-7 June which celebrates the contribution volunteers make right across the UK.
