New Deal for Disabled People Job Broking Service
Roy
initially came to the Job Broking Service having previously worked
with a support worker for a few hours in a superstore. Roy has
learning difficulties and has problems with his reading and
writing. He discovered that previous job broking services he
accessed were reluctant to allow him the time to progress and had
therefore been unable to help him secure employment.
On joining the programme, Roy attended one-to-one meetings,
undertook basic skills assessments and work shadowed the NDDP team
for a period of time. As a result of attending work trials at two
superstores without the assistance of his support worker, his
confidence increased twofold.
Roy, who is now employed, is attending regular Basic Numeracy and
Basic English courses. The team are delighted with Roy’s
progress, he is a credit to himself and to the NDDP team who have
assisted him every step of the way.
Pat
joined the NDDP programme after being on Incapacity Benefit for 18
years with an interest in doing a ‘back to practice’
course in Nursing. Pat’s Job broking facilitator assisted her
with financial advice and after a period of intense sessions within
the NDDP programme covering financial elements and confidence
building, Pat went on to successfully complete her course and
gained a voluntary placement with a Hospital setting.
Pat is now licensed to practice Nursing again and has secured full
time employment. Pat is delighted with the outcome and feels she
couldn’t have done it without the support and help of the
NDDP team
